Domestic violence is an issue that affects many women, children and families around the world.  To raise awareness about this issue, every year starting on November 25 the world celebrates 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world.  The Shanghai American Center is hosting this special screening of The Color Purple to kick off this year’s 16 Days celebration and to emphasize the importance of domestic violence laws.

1985年出品的《紫色》由史蒂文·斯皮尔伯格导演，丹尼·格洛弗、德斯雷塔·杰克逊 、玛格丽特·艾弗瑞、奥普拉·温弗瑞、阿道夫·恺撒、瑞伊·道恩·冲以及乌比·戈德堡等人主演，通过讲述黑人年轻女孩Celie Harris的故事，反映了非裔美国人在20世纪初面对包括家庭暴力、贫困、种族歧视、性别歧视等各种问题。在两位独立坚强的女性友人的帮助下，Celie慢慢找到了自己的价值。影片曾获得包括最佳影片在内的11项奥斯卡提名。

The Color Purple is an 1985 American period drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, starring Danny Glover, Desreta Jackson, Margaret Avery, Oprah Winfrey, Adolph Caesar, Rae Dawn Chong, and introducing Whoopi Goldberg. The film tells the story of a young African American girl named Celie Harris and shows the problems African American women faced during the early 20th century, including domestic violence, poverty, racism, and sexism. Celie is transformed as she finds her self-worth through the help of two strong female companions. This film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture.
