你知道吗？一位美国前总统曾在19世纪70年代进行了一次长达两年的全球访问，还曾受邀访问了当时的大清帝国？他就是美国第18任总统，也是美国内战时期的联邦军总司令——尤里西斯·S·格兰特。2022年4月27日是格兰特总统诞辰200周年纪念日，上海美国中心特别请到了学者刘显闻先生为大家带来一系列讲座，介绍格兰特和他的亚洲之旅。2月18日的第一期讲座中，刘显闻先生将为大家介绍格兰特1879年的中国行。加入我们，来看看格兰特的旅程中发生了什么趣事。
Did you know that a former President of the United States undertook a two-year global tour in the 1870s, and that he was invited to visit the ruling Qing Empire in China? He was the 18th president of the United States and the famous Civil War General of the victorious Union Army, Ulysses S. Grant.  April 27, 2022, is the 200th anniversary of President Grant's birth.  To commemorate this day, the Shanghai American Center has invited Mr. Liu Xianwen, an independent scholar, to deliver a lecture series about Grant and his amazing trip to Asia.  In the first session, on February 18, Mr. Liu Xianwen will introduce some history about Ulysses S. Grant and his trip to China in 1879.  Join us to learn what interesting things happened during his voyage.

关于嘉宾 About the Speaker

刘显闻，生于1975年，独立学者，主要研究领域是美国史（美国内战史和林肯学）及美国当代政治；2016年-2017年，哈佛大学文理研究生院非洲学和美国非裔学研究中心访问学者；已出版四本专著，另有多本正在出版过程中。

Liu Xianwen (Jefferson), born in 1975, is an independent scholar of American History.  He is especially interested in the American Civil War and in U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Liu Xianwen was a Visiting Fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 2016 and 2017.  He has published 4 books, and more are soon to be published.

由于疫情期间，所有到场观众都必须佩戴口罩，保持“社交距离”，在进入上海美国中心前，所有观众都将进行体温测试，并需要出示您的健康码。参加活动请务必提前报名。活动会准时开始，是否有余位视现场观众到场情况而定。如果您到达时房间已满，你可能将不被允许进入，即使您已经报名。目前，我们只能保证到达的前60名观众入场。
During this time, the audience must wear masks, maintain social distancing requirements, take temperature test and show a Shanghai health code before entering the Shanghai American Center. Please be sure to RSVP if you intend to come.  Programs begin on time and seats are subject to space availability. If the room is full when you arrive, you might not be granted entry, even if you RSVP'd. We can only seat the first 60 guests at this time.

Doors will open and security screening will commence 15 minutes before the program starts. You must bring a valid physical photo ID in order to enter the Shanghai American Center (ShAC). Copies or pictures of IDs will not be accepted. 

安检过程中，我们会对所有即将进入上海美国中心的物品进行扫描。请勿携带笔记本电脑进入上海美国中心，手机、iPad及其他平板设备、智能手表等允许携带。
All belongings carried into the ShAC will be scanned during security screening. While guests may not bring laptop computers to Shanghai American Center programs, portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted.

Press inquiries should be directed to the U.S. Consulate Shanghai Press Office. Additionally, audio or video recording of the program will not be permitted.
